Introduction

To start this blog off I would like to write about its purpose and to introduce myself. My name is Lena and I am a senior at AU studying Art History and International Relations, I have always been fascinated with art, cultures, languages and communication. This blog will be a diary-like documentation of my experiences of interning at the Hilshhorn Contemporary Art Museum and Sculpture Garden. I will be working with the Anne Truitt exhibit that is on display from Oct. 8th, 2009 to Jan. 3rd, 2010. My role at the museum is dubbed “interpretive guide” and only during the orientation did I begin to understand the full extent of my role. To put it shortly I will be interacting and conversing with visitors concerning her work as well as doing research for the museum. Some of the concepts explored are: the visitor experience, modern art, the role of the museum as an educator, how to discuss art and what information do you bring into the discussion.
