Introduction

To start this blog off I would like to write about its purpose and to introduce myself. My name is Lena and I am a senior at AU studying Art History and International Relations, I have always been fascinated with art, cultures, languages and communication. This blog will be a diary-like documentation of my experiences of interning at the Hilshhorn Contemporary Art Museum and Sculpture Garden. I will be working with the Anne Truitt exhibit that is on display from Oct. 8^th, 2009 to Jan. 3^rd, 2010. My role at the museum is dubbed “interpretive guide” and only during the orientation did I begin to understand the full extent of my role. To put it shortly I will be interacting and conversing with visitors concerning her work as well as doing research for the museum. Some of the concepts explored are: the visitor experience, modern art, the role of the museum as an educator, how to discuss art and what information do you bring into the discussion.
